It has been a while since I have done a favorites post, but with the holidays coming up and gift giving on everyones minds, I figured now would be a great time to update you on some of my favorite clean beauty and skincare items that I have been absolutely loving. Each of these products I have used consistently, and would highly recommend to anyone who is looking to transition their skincare towards more safe and sustainable products, or for the clean beauty junkie who is always looking for something new.
why clean skincare?
Just as it is important to think about what is going in our body, it is also important to be aware of what is going on it. Our skin is a living, breathing, incredible organ that helps protect our body, aid in the ellimination of toxins, and absorbs roughly 60-70% of everything it comes in contact with. This can be beneficial in the form of absorbing certain vitamins and minerals, or even in regards to how our skin absorbs and synthesises vitamin D from the sun, but can also be a negative when we are talking about our skin absorbing toxic chemicals found in our skincare products, which then make their way directly into our bloodstream.
I don't know about you but if I have an option of a product containing toxic chemicals, and a product containing clean, safe ingredients...I will choose to safe option. Especially when the price, and quality can in many cases be better than the unsafe alternative.
ingredients to avoid
I know that when I first transitioned to clean beauty and skincare products I was really confused as to which ingredients where safe and which were not. That is why I absolutely love the education that Follain (a clean and safe skincare company) provides on its website for consumers to access and educate themselves.
My advice would be to take a screenshot of this list of ingredients or copy the items into the notes on your phone to have for easy reference in the future.
my current clean beauty and skincare favorites
01: Baudelaire Dry Brush If you have any issues with circulation, lymphathic drainage, or cellulite this dry brush is going to be your new best friend. I use it every single day before stepping into the shower and it has absolutely helped my raynauds syndrome.
02: Ilia Lipstick Crayon Maybe it's the little kid in me, but I love crayon lipsticks. I find they are always way easier to apply and the color on this one is perfect for the holidays. Ilia lipsticks leave your lips feeling really hydrated and this stays on me forever.
03: Ilia Silken Shadow Stick I couldn't love this shadow stick more. I am really not a big eye makeup person, but this stick is so easy to apply, stays in place, and I can literally look like I have done my eye makeup in under 10 seconds walking out the door.
04: Osmia Spot Treatment I have very sensitive skin that is prone to breakouts, especially more in the winter months. This is a great spot treatment option for hormonal acne that won't dry out your skin (which will only further exacerbate the problem). Since I also have a hard time not touching my face when I have a pimple, I like this because when I feel tempted to touch it I just roll this on instead. I find it really helps in the recovery time, and keeps any breakouts from really coming to the surface.
05: Pai Camellia and Rose Gentle Hydrating Cleanser I have on and off perioral dermatitis (PD), which is basically a rash that can appear around the mouth, and can even move up under the eyes (in my case). Whenever I notice my PD is flaring I switch immediately from my oil based products (PD does not like oils) and will opt for this very simple cleanser. It is so gentle and I would imagine would be great for people with conditions like eczema, and very sensitive skin.
06: Trilogy CoQ10 Booster Oil I have bought this oil now three times and continue to love it. It smells out of this world amazing and really really absorbs well into my skin. I can use it both day and night, and I think that the tamanu oil in it really works well with my sensitive yet blemish prone skin.
07: Marie Veronique Redness Relief Serum Because my skin is sensitive it can become red pretty easily. I find that this really helps tone down redness when I need it to. I don't use it consistently, only when I have a leftover red spot from a blemish, or have some irritated patches on my skin.
08: Marie Veronique B6 Soothing Serum If you have sensitive skin that reacts easily I highly recommend checking out this product. I think it has really contributed to helping my skin become more resilient to breakouts and was a great recommendation from my incredible facialist here in Boston Shannon from Noel Herbals.
09: Marie Veronique Replenishing Oil Cleanser Are you noticing a theme here? Marie Veronique is an amazing brand with just incredible ingredients for us folks with sensitive, more reactive skin. But I also know that plenty of people who don't have sensitive skin also LOVE her products. Anyway, this cleanser is really luxurious and always leaves my skin feeling very clean but also very hydrated. If you have dry skin (like I do in the winter) you know that tight feeling you get after cleansing, ya I don't get that with this!
