We all know them, we may not quite understand them, but everyone of us I am sure has that banana hating loved one in their lives. For me it happens to be my husband...I know, it's kind of torture. Some of my favorite meals are hands down smoothie bowls, and some of my favorite smoothie bowls use banana as a key ingredient for getting that delicious creamy consistency.
I have tried over the years to see how much banana I can get away with without it being detected, and let me tell you that answer is zero. If I put even 1/4 of a frozen banana in a smoothie recipe, and load the rest of the smoothie up with other strong flavors like cacao, berries, matcha, protein powder, etc. my banana hating husband will taste it and immediately act repulsed. He hates the smell/taste of bananas so much that he told me the other day as I was peeling a bunch of ripe bananas to freeze that he was going to teach our children from a young age to hate bananas because he doesn't want to feed them to them [insert eye roll]. I preceded to remind him that basically every child's favorite food is banana and he was probably going to have to get over it.
But really, when it comes to this amazing fruit it seems as though you either love it, or hate it, and if you hate it, your realllllly hate it. So over the years I have moved away from trying to trick my husband into eating bananas because I like them in my smoothies, and have worked on getting more creative with how I can make my smoothies creamy AND banana free. This also works out great for people who are trying to lower the sugar content in their smoothies, are actually allergic to bananas, or like my husband just hate the taste of bananas and feel left out of every smoothie recipe out there because they all seem to use banana as a key ingredient.
This banana free green smoothie bowl is loaded with healthy fats and skin/gut loving greens, is low in sugar, and uses a vegan protein powder to add a nutritional punch to this meal making it balanced, and great for a post-workout breakfast, or light lunch.
creamy banana free green smoothie bowl
- 2 scoops Aloha Vegan Vanilla Protein
- 1 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1/2 frozen avocado
- 1/2 frozen peaches
- 1/2 cup riced cauliflower
- 2 cups raw spinach
- 1 tsp matcha powder
- 1 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp maca powder
- 1 tablespoon coconut flakes (unsweetended)
- 1 tsp cacao nibs
- 1 tsp gluten free oats
- 1/4 cup frozen blueberries
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- Combine all ingredients in a high speed blender.
- Begin blending on low, and slowly increase speed to high.
- Allow to blend until completely smooth and creamy.
- Pour into bowl and top with toppings of your choice, or recommended toppings.
