Chocolate Pumpkin Protein Mousse

So it is the day before Thanksgiving, and I am sure many of you are already hard at work preparing all of your families favorite food traditions for the holiday, and I really just want to say that I hope you take a moment to enjoy yourself, enjoy the chaos of the holidays, of your families being home, and of all the love that I hope will be surrounding you. This has got to be the most delicious, decadent accident I ever made. Originally, I was just trying to create a nice fall inspired smoothie bowl, with some different flavors to break me out of my normal routine. What I wasn't expecting was the fluffiest mousse that was perfectly balanced, satisfying, and actually pretty darn good for you.

This you guys is not a smoothie bowl at all, it truly is a decadent combination of chocolate and pumpkin that when blended together forms a perfect mousse that is an amazing healthy dessert to share with your friends and family this holiday season. While I have to admit I have also been eating it for breakfast/lunch on occasion, I knew that it really needed to be shared as a healthy dessert, that I hope you all with love. 

What I love most about this recipe is that there is no added sugar, lots of great fiber from the pumpkin, and excellent protein and anti-inflammatory friendly spices. Recipes like this are perfect for someone who may struggle with blood sugar issues, and cravings as the protein/fiber/carbohydrate combination in this dessert is so balanced, making it something that is sure to keep you feel fuller, longer. The addition of cinnamon also lends itself well to balancing blood sugar levels, and to help keep cravings at bay which are just some of its many amazing health properties.

Lately, I have been layering it with some toasted coconut flakes, fresh berries, and even a little bit of my homemade gluten free granola for an added crunch. But you really can layer or top this dessert anyway you like and I am sure it will be amazing. 

chocolate pumpkin protein mousse



  • 1 cup frozen pumpkin (I freeze mine by taking canned pumpkin and freezing it in ice cube trays)
  • 2 scoops vegan vanilla protein (I used Aloha Vanilla Vegan Protein Powder)
  • 1 cup cashew milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp maca powder
  • 1 tsp chia seeds
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp cloves
  • 1/2 tsp allspice 
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric 
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper


  • Place all ingredients in a high speed blender, and blend until all ingredients are super smooth and fluffy.
  • Then top your mousse with your favorite toppings. Personally I love adding a little unsweetened coconut flakes, cacao nibs, and some fresh berries.
