Before we get to the DELISH recipe I have in store for you today (and I promise tomorrows recipe has nothing to do with smoothies or bowls, no smoothie bowls around these parts for a few more days I promise...I think), can I first go on a little weekend related reflection tangent? Thanks! First of which is that...I live here, this picture below you....yep that is the un-filtered New England Atlantic Ocean people and it's in my home town. HOW and WHY is our water turquoise right now?!? I'll take it!
I honestly say this all the time when I go home but, I really am baffled constantly by how beautiful where I was fortunate to grow up is. Maybe that sounds spoiled, or conceited, or whatever and trust me I really am not trying to, but with all the traveling I do, when I come home I honestly am constantly in awe and reminded of how beautiful of an area of this world I was lucky enough to grow up in. I don't take the time to appreciate and sit back and enjoy it as much as I should, and it was a weekend such as this one that reminded me of how important it is to always keep exploring. And that doesn't mean flying to a far away country every chance you get, it means opening your eyes to what is right next to you. This is something I am constantly trying to work on, and hope one day will be far better at than I am now.
Okay now on to this delicious smoothie bowl!
Make this smoothie bowl right now. I mean it, head on over to your blender and go blend this delicious brightly filled bowl of healthy goodness right up, and if you don't have the ingredients in your freezer use this as some inspiration and improvise, or go to the store and make this tomorrow. Trust me, you can't have a bad morning when you start your day spooning a bright purple and chocolate covered smoothie into your mouth. Honestly just try to have the morning blues, I dare you. Now the morning purples on the other hand, that is totally acceptable :)
I actually made this delicious goddess bowl over the weekend, and shared it to my instagram (follow me over there for all my day to day eats, and other fun goodies that don't make the blog), and it was incredible! I have been playing around a lot with my smoothie bowls lately (as if you haven't noticed) and have been working on finding the best combinations for lower-sugar, more satisfying smoothie bowls that feel so decadent and satisfying that they just shouldn't be good for you...but they are, that's the best part.
This smoothie ended up being one for the books, and is definitely going to be one I go back to on a regular occasion. While not all of my smoothies turn out to be pretty and brightly colored (hint mixing too many strawberries and greens usually equals a brown smoothie) I find that I always tend to gravitate towards the ones that are. What can I say I am a sucker for some all natural food dyes :)
Bright Berry Acai Bowl
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 cup frozen blackberries
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use sunwarrior)
- 1 cup spinach leaves
- 1/4 cup coconut water
- 1 tsp matcha powder
- 2 tsp raw gluten free oats
- 1 tsp acai powder
- 1 tsp chia seeds
- 1/2 tsp cacoa powder
- 6 ice cubes
- Place all smoothie ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. If your smoothie is too thick try adding a little more almond milk or coconut water, and if for some reason it is too watery I would add a little more frozen banana or ice cubes.
- Pour into a bowl, throw on your toppings and enjoy!!
